What Would Tottenham’s Interest In This Croatian Midfielder Mean To The Future Of Their 21-Year Old Starlet

The Addition Of Brozovic Will Get The Best Out Of Harry Winks

Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur have a decent chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season. They are currently second in the points table but have little chance of catching Chelsea at the top. The manager will know that he will have to spend big this summer to help them compete with the best next season and this has seen him linked with a few big names recently. One such name that is constantly doing the rounds around the White Hart Lane is Inter Milan’s midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.

The 24-year-old Croatian International has been integral to the plans of the Italian side, making 21 appearances in the domestic clicks and contributing 5 goals and 4 assists so far this season. Though the midfielder has 4 years left on his contract, the English side are reportedly close to landing him this summer. He would add a lot of quality to this Spurs’ side but that will make life difficult for a certain Harry Winks.

The 21-year-old English youngster is a product of the Academy at the White Hart Lane and has made some impressive performances under Pochettino this season. His previous outing was in a match winning cause in the quarterfinals of the FA cup and it looked like he was ready to take the next step. Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele have occupied the midfield in the first team this season but Winks has 31 appearances to his name in all competitions this season.

Though he has made only 11 starts this season for his side he was expected to be an important part of the squad next season. But reports of Tottenham’s interest in Marcelo Brozovic could further affect the youngster’s chances in the first team. A central midfielder by trait, Brozovic is also capable of playing in an advanced role or also on the wing but it is best to use him extensively for his midfield abilities. Wanyama has been solid this season and should be the first choice for Pochettino next campaign. As well, there is little reason why the manager would replace Dembele from the first team. This will mean that Brozovic will also have to prove himself to get into the first team at the club.

The Croatian from Inter Milan will add some metal and depth to the squad but a move for him only makes sense if Winks gets his chances too to prove himself. Pochettino has got an exciting talent in his ranks and there is little need for him to look elsewhere but if they are to compete in all four competitions next season, they may very well need all the help they can get. Marcelo Brozovic is a top quality player and is a worthy addition to the squad at White Hart Lane. His versatility should help Tottenham Hotspur in crunch times next season and if he can cement a place in the first team, then the competition for places will also improve the overall performance of the squad.

At just 21, Winks has enough time to prove himself at the highest level and this might be the perfect environment for him to realise the best of his potential.

Do you think Marcelo Brozovic will affect the game time for Harry Winks next season?
