Tottenham’s Sanchez vs United’s Lindelof – Who Will Succeed Better In The Premier League?

Tottenham and Manchester United’s two new defensive summer signings have a lot to live up to, now that they are in one of the toughest Leagues in the world. Davinson Sanchez and Victor Lindelof are both young and have been purchased for big amounts of money.

The Premier League is not the average domestic League. It has some of the biggest names in football and the toughest opponents one can face. So, Sanchez and Lindelof really have their work cut out in order to prove their worth. But, which one of the two can be more successful in the Premier League? Let’s take a look.

Davinson Sanchez

The 21-year-old Colombian centre-back was more than impressive in his first full season at Ajax FC, helping them come close to winning the Dutch title as well as reach the Europa League final last season. Despite the near misses in terms of titles, Sanchez caught the eyes of some of the biggest clubs in Europe. But, it was Tottenham in the end who signed him for a whopping £42million this summer.

Given his age and what he has achieved so far in terms of individual performances, Spurs have definitely made a signing for the future. With next to no experience outside Netherlands, the Premier League could be his toughest challenge yet.

Davinson Sanchez certainly has what it takes to be successful in England, with a pass percentage close 90% for Ajax last season. The youngster definitely is sharp on the field. Sanchez was the best ball recoverer in his team last season and was Onana’s (Ajax goalkeeper) go to man when launching a fresh attack.

Being 1.87m tall, the young Colombian is an amazing header of the ball and is a real threat from set pieces and corners. Despite being just 21, he can out muscle the opposition with his strength, using his frame.

Sanchez definitely suits the Tottenham’s style of play thanks to his deceptive pace and his positional awareness. He is always on the ball and is rarely caught out and stays a step ahead of his opposition.

Weakness

Due to his inexperience and young age, Sanchez can sometimes overdo things, resulting in a chance for the opposition but he always has room to improve.

Victor Lindelof

The Swedish centre-back joined Manchester United with a sealed approval from his fellow national and Red Devils striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic for £31million. Manchester United were pursuing the 23-year-old since the summer of 2016 but failed to sign him in their first attempt.

Lindelof is a classic ball playing defender who frequently likes to venture forward and make long passes with the ball at his feet. He is also sharp in the box and can be effective in dealing with set piece situations, which is always a threat in the Premier League.

He is also versatile and can play the right-back role with ease, as he has often done for Sweden. Even Lindelof has a pass percentage of 90%, which equals to what Davinson Sanchez offers. He is also of the same height as the Colombian centre-back.

Many regard him to be very much like Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, due to his tackling ability and recovery pace.

Weakness

Perhaps one weakness he has in his game is positional awareness. Lindelof can find it difficult to handle quick fire counter attacks from the opposition leaving him with no clue as to where to be positioned or what to do.

The Verdict

Both Davinson Sanchez and Victor Lindelof are talented defenders and have the potential to be the best in the Premier League. Both of them have strengths and weaknesses and it can be difficult for anyone to predict as to who will more successful in the Premier League.

With Manchester United already looking strong defensively, Lindelof might not get much game time under Mourinho this season. The same goes to Davinson Sanchez as well, as Tottenham have one of the best CB pairing in entire Europe.

It could be that both the players will shine equally given the balance of their team and the nature of the Premier League.
