Transfer News: Leeds United target Reading midfielder John Swift

Leeds United News: Leeds United are lining up a move for Reading midfielder John Swift claims Football Insider.

The 23-year-old has a contract which ties him to the club until 2022.

Who is John Swift?

A youth product of Chelsea, Swift got his place in the first-team in 2014, but didn’t get enough playing time.

He then had loan spells at Rotherham United, Swindon Town and Brentford, getting his breakthrough with the latter club.

Swift joined the Royals in 2016 and went on to make more than 100 appearances.

He is often deployed as a box-to-box midfielder and is adept at scoring goals.

Swift has been in sensational form for the Royals this season

Swift has transformed himself this season, scoring three goals and four assists.

He has been a pivotal for Manuel Gomes’ side who are on the brink of relegation.

Possibilities of signing

The Whites are one of the favourites to gain automatic promotion to the Premier League next season, which might encourage the midfielder to seek an exit from the Royals.

How will he fit in Bielsa’s playing 11?

The odds are high for Swift to fit in Bielsa’s traditional 4-1-4-1 formation, since he is used as an attacking midfielder at Reading by Gomes.

He will have to fight for his place with Mateus Klich and Tyler Roberts though, who have been pivotal for the Argentine manager.

However, the former England U-21 international would provide excellent cover for all sorts of midfielders.
