Transfer Opinion: Why This ex-Manchester United Striker Could Work Well At Chelsea

Falcao to Chelsea?

The English adventure of Radamel Falcao might not be over for the Colombian as news is filtering in that he is a target for Chelsea. The Blues have lost out on the services of Didier Drogba for next season and they have been thinking about signing a player who can chip in with a few appearances for the team in case Diego Costa picks up and injury, like he did for a few games this season.

The Blues already have Loic Remy, but he knows his role as a squad player at the club, Radamel Falcao would have a bigger role for the team if he is signed. But a lot of pundits and fans have doubts about the signing, why would Chelsea be willing to take a risk on a player who obviously didn’t seem to do well when he was playing for Manchester United?

Second season syndrome?

Falcao didn’t really do all that well at Manchester United with only 4 goals in the entire season and then being almost frozen out of the squad for a while. The Colombian might not be on top of everyone’s wish list but think about the Falcao that everyone saw while he was at Porto and Atletico Madrid. Had it not been for his injury during his time at Monaco, he could have been the same Falcao, scoring goals left right and centre.

Falcao is an upgrade on the old workhorse Didier Drogba, who didn’t really shine with the chances he was given at Chelsea last season. Falcao still has a lot of game left in him and think about it, he has spent one year in England has learned about the league and the teams and could probably do better next season.

The other factor which would make this deal work is that he would have one of the best coaches in the world with him for the entire journey. Jose Mourinho knows how to get the best out of his players and he can do that with Falcao and make him a better player next season. Falcao would need to impress during the Copa America first to show to people that he is back to his best. Colombia have a great chance of doing well in the Copa America this year with the talent that they have and a great championship for the striker could just be the clincher to ensure he does make it to the Champions next season in a cool shade of blue.
