Two Goals And Six Assists – Why This Juventus Bound Left-Back Will Be A Great Addition For Chelsea

Chelsea are planning a sensational swoop for Schalke left-back Sead Kolasinac. The left-back, who is out of contract with the German side at the end of the season, is in high demand but according to reports, has had a verbal agreement with Italian champions Juventus to move to Turin in the summer. However, Antonio Conte is planning to steal the Bosnian from under the nose of his former employers and bring him at Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

Chelsea haven’t seen much happening in this window, despite being linked with a horde of stars. There have been two high-profile exits with Oscar and Patrick Bamford leaving the club, amounting to a profit of close to £60 million. However, the Blues haven’t invested these funds anywhere, but now look like making an offer for the left-back.

Conte has adopted a 3-4-3 system at Chelsea this term and the setup has reaped great rewards for the Blues and they sit comfortably at the top of the Premier League, maintaining an eight-point lead. The wing-backs Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso have been a revelation this term. Moses, whose career had hit a roadblock at Chelsea has excelled as the right wing-back, while Alonso came into the squad on the deadline day amidst many doubts surrounding his quality and suitability, but has silenced the doubters with some excellent displays.

However, it must be taken into note that Chelsea are pretty thin in the full-back department. Youngster Ola Aina has acted as a backup for Moses while Nathan Ake has been recalled from loan to provide cover in the backline. But there isn’t a quality backup available for Alonso and with the business end of the season fast approaching, Chelsea will do well to sign a cover if Alonso faces time on the sidelines in the future.

The 23-year old Kolasinac is enjoying a fine season at the Gelsenkirchen-based club, after having had a tough year and a half due to some serious injury issues. He has made 18 appearances for Schalke this term and has netted twice along with setting up 6 more strikes.

A full-flowing, attacking left-back, Kolasinac will thrive in Conte’s system as a wing-back with more freedom to drive forward. At over 6 feet tall, the 23-year old has an imposing presence and is robust enough to deal with the physicality in the Premier League. An excellent header of the ball as well, and a strong tackler, Kolasinac has shown great ability to read the game and situation awareness and will be an asset at Chelsea.

Chelsea have been brilliant this season, but to sustain a title challenge over the coming period, having quality cover is a must and with Kolasinac, the Premier League leaders will be getting just that. Aggressive, strong and young, the Bosnian will be the perfect addition and will strengthen the already strong Chelsea backline.
