How This Versatile Spaniard Can Solve Manchester United’s Attacking Crisis Under Jose

Ander Herrera

Manchester United have just signed former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, to bring success back to the club. Louis van Gaal’s performance over the two years was not something to be proud of, though he left them after signing some high quality stars and eventually winning the FA Cup. Now, the Portuguese manager will look to add some more good players, in order to challenge for the Premier League title and other various cups as well.

All the top clubs from England are keen on adding more stars to their squad, including the Red Devils, who have been linked with a number of big names.

However, could it be that the solution to the Portuguese manager’s problems be within his current squad itself? Mourinho knows that his new team needs someone who can create and score more goals consistently, but what is the need of signing more players just randomly, when he can motivate players like Ander Herrera to do that for him instead.

The 26 year old Spaniard was not really used properly by Van Gaal during his tenure with the club and was frustrated due to the lack of game time last season.

He barely made 40 total appearances for the club, across five different competitions and 12 of his appearances in the league were mainly as a sub. With the time that he was given, in bits and pieces, the midfielder was still able to score four goals and claim two assists for this team.

The player was given a full 90 minutes just twice since March and was speculated to leave The Theater of Dreams, with the arrival of Mourinho, as the new manager was looking to axe him along with some of his team-mates.

Despite that, it could be in the best interest of the new main-man to keep the attacker and utilize him in the right way instead. The former Atletico Bilbao man has a lot of experience of playing in Spain and has also made a total of 53 league appearances for United, scoring nine goals since joining them in 2014.

He has been playing a mix of both a central and attacking midfield role and had gradually settled into the first team, after a slow start to life in England. The player has good passing ability and can also takes free-kicks.

His tackling and focus in a match is also commendable and can be an asset to lift the team, when things are not going right for them. Further, he also performs his defensive duties well and is not shy of falling back as and when needed.

In short he is a very versatile player, which is exactly what the Manchester based side could now utilize in the upcoming campaign, though adding another proper goalscorer would only further boost their chances of winning more silverware.
