Watch Out Liverpool – This Manchester United Forward Regained His Magical Touch Again

The biggest game of the season takes place on Sunday, undoubtedly the biggest rivalry in Premier League football if not in England, Liverpool travel to take on Manchester United at Old Trafford. The two most successful clubs in English football are set to take centre stage in a battle which has predominantly swung Manchester United’s way for most of the recent meetings.

Liverpool did the double over their rivals last season but that form seems extinct as it is Manchester United who have won 5 games in a row, even when not playing well, while Liverpool crashed out of the UEFA Champions League this midweek. A lot of stars would be on show in this big game, especially from the Manchester United side although Di Maria would be missing the game; there is one player who should be kept an eye on, especially by Liverpool.

Robin Van Persie is the man to watch out for, especially since he has come back to his goal scoring best, he scored both goals as Manchester United defeated a pretty decent Southampton side last week. There were suggestions that the Flying Dutchman had lost his wings and ability to play well but he is getting back his magical touch again and Liverpool should be wary.

The Dutchman getting his wings

Van Persie has slowly made it back into the good books at Manchester United, Radamel Falcao’s injury meant that Van Persie would get more playing time and he has scored 3 goals in 3 games ever since he was yanked off against Arsenal, in which he was extremely poor.

In the match against Hull City, not only did Van Persie score a goal, he created 1 chance and had a 95% passing success rate. He played 70 minutes in that game and also won 33% of all his aerial duels, something that Van Persie isn’t known for. His aerial prowess continued in the next game against Stoke, Van Persie won all his aerial duels against a team which is known to be tough, although he did not score his passing percentage was a decent 82% but this just showed that Van Persie was coming back into form.

Van Persie showed his all round game against Southampton, he not only scored twice but won 50% of his aerial duels and 75% of his tackles, and he contributed to the defensive aspect as well with a clearance to boot. (All stats from Squawka.com)

Van Persie has faced Liverpool 12 times in the Premier League and has scored 6 times against the Reds, this Sunday could be the game in which Robin Van Persie cements his position in the team and makes it a truly wretched run for Liverpool, nothing like scoring against the old enemy, Liverpool have been warned.
