Watford winning the race for this relegated star would help them qualify for the Europa League next season

Watford opinion: The Hornets should win the race for Aaron Mooy

According to reports from the Examiner Live, Watford have entered the race for Huddersfield star Aaron Mooy. Arguably the best player for Huddersfield over the last two season, Mooy has been heavily linked with a move to Vicarage road over the last few months.

Not just that, the report has further added that the deal is close to fruition for the former Manchester City star. However, nothing is close to fruition and while Watford still remain very interested in the Australian star, things need to move a little faster.

The 28-year-old would arguably be a sensational move for the Hornets, given their issues in midfield. Manager Javi Gracia has transformed both Will Hughes and Roberto Pereyra into wide-attackers, which has changed their midfield.

This has left a lot of work for Etienne Capoue, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Tom Cleverley to do but Doucoure has more than made up for it. Yet, Capoue and Cleverley’s decline has been rather surprising and this is where Aaron Mooy enters the fray.

The 28-year-old may have struggled with injuries this season but yet at the same time, he finished as one of the Terriers’ best stars. That says a lot not just about Mooy but about how badly the season did go for Huddersfield.

Not just one of their best players, the Australian is one of their most creative players, and that’s what Watford need. Another creative genius, who’s more importantly very hardworking.

Creative and talented, the 28-year-old is a box-to-box midfielder by trade, although he can play further up as a number 10 if required. Furthermore, the Australian is a workaholic and goes above and beyond for his team, which has been on show this season in the Premier League.

Despite his issues with injuries this season, Mooy would fit perfectly with Gracia’s style. Furthermore, with Abdoulaye Doucoure linked heavily with a move away, things need to change and replacing the 26-year-old will be tough.

Adding Aaron Mooy to their stable will definitely help the transition and it’s just what Watford need. The Hornets are transforming into a technical yet tough side and Mooy fits that bill perfectly.
