Watford signing this 6ft 3in Asian giant would be a terrific bit of January business by Gracia

Why signing Kim Min-Jae will be crucial to Watford’s defensive live

Reports from the Sun are claiming that Watford are lining up a move for Kim Min-Jae – the South Korean defender who won the K League’s young player of the year award last season.

Watford have had a pretty successful season and currently find themselves in a very comfortable 7th place with more than half of the season already past us. With a whole 11 points separating them from 6th-placed Manchester United, fighting for Europe does look quite far-fetched at this point.

At the same time, the 7th spot is not very secure at all because 8th-placed Wolves are only a solitary point off the Hornets. To add to Javi Gracia’s worries, 12th-placed Bournemouth are just 3 points off Watford, which means that a single slip-up can cost them up to 5 places on the table.

With 32 goals scored and 32 goals conceded so far, Watford’s goal difference needs to improve. Given all the attacking talent available in their ranks, finding goals shouldn’t be a problem for this side.

Roberto Pereyra and Troy Deeney have been getting the goals for Gracia while Andre Gray has recently returned from injury and even scored in the 2-0 FA Cup 4th-round win against Newcastle at St. James’ Park. Also, Ken Sema, Gerard Deulofeu and Will Hughes have all been pitching in as well.

While there isn’t a requirement for attacking reinforcements, in the defensive phase, some changes can be in order. With the recent injuries to Craig Cathcart and Federico Fernandez, Gracia must have realised that even all the defensive wealth available at his disposal might not be enough in a league as competitive as this one.

As suggested by the Sun, a bid for South Korean defender Kim Min-Jae from Watford is on the cards as his performances this campaign have impressed a variety of clubs.

He is a 6ft 3in monster of a centre-half who plays for Jeonbuk Motors. He is an exceptional young talent at just 22 and has been touted to be a massive star for his country in the future.

He is an amazing presence in the box and will certainly add a new dimension to Watford’s defensive side. His heading abilities are very impressive while his intelligence and positioning have also been superb. Overall, he will be a great import for the Premier League and Gracia would do well to lure the starlet to Vicarage road.
