West Ham pushing hard to land this £11m Tottenham powerhouse would be a hugely beneficial move for Pellegrini – opinion

West Ham opinion: Should the Hammers sign Victor Wanyama?

According to a report from MSN, West Ham are interested in signing Tottenham’s midfield powerhouse Victor Wanyama. The Kenyan has been out of favour in North London due to his injury problems but his ability is unquestionable.

The Hammers were also linked with a loan move for Wanyama at the end of last year but a deal failed to materialise. The report reveals that Manuel Pellegrini is a great admirer of the midfielder and he believes that Wanyama would be a key addition to his squad.

However, West Ham’s strained relationship with Spurs chairmen Daniel Levy, as well as Tottenham’s reluctance to sell the player to a London rival, could prove to be a stumbling block in the deal but West Ham should push hard to get their man in the summer.

One of West Ham’s strengths this season has been in central midfield. The partnership of skipper Mark Noble and young sensation Declan Rice has been phenomenal for the hammers and on first thought, they do not need additions in that position.

However, Mark Noble is into his thirties now and Declan Rice’s performances have attracted great interest from the bigger clubs like Manchester United and Manchester City in recent months.

Losing Rice will be a massive blow for the Hammers, especially with Jack Wilshere’s injury problems since his arrival.

Manuel Pellegrini will need to bring a dominant midfielder, who will be able to fill the void left by Rice and signing Victor Wanyama would be a masterstroke by the West Ham boss.

Wanyama is a proven commodity in the Premier League and a beast of a midfielder when he is fit. The Kenyan can be a destroyer in the middle of the park for the Hammers and his addition will provide incredible steel to West Ham’s back line.

Wanyama is a brilliant tackler of the ball and he uses his 6ft 2in frame to dominate his opponent in the middle of the park. The £11m Tottenham signing, despite his size, is fairly quick and is capable of getting in between the ball and the opponent.

His size makes him a huge threat aerially, which will be a massive asset; both offensively and defensively; inside the box. Wanyama also possesses the ability to score goals from a long way out.

Conclusion

West Ham should go all out to sign Victor Wanyama in the summer and the Kenyan would be an absolute monster in central midfield. The Hammers’ midfield will boast of massive experience if he is paired up with Noble. His presence will have a positive impact on the rest of the team.
