West Ham season preview 2019/20 – can the Hammers achieve a top-6 finish after a brilliant summer window?

West Ham opinion: West Ham season preview

West Ham fan have a lot to be positive about in the coming season after some very exciting signings in the last two windows. The Hammers had a lot of positives from last season to build on after making a terrible start to the league, suffering losses in the first 4 games.

However, the introduction of Declan Rice in a holding midfield role changed their fortunes completely and saw them become a more cohesive unit. He bought balance to the side and helped West Ham achieve a respectable 10th place finish.

Pablo Fornals

West Ham would definitely want to do a lot better than a 10th-place finish and have to build a side that can make it to a European spot and compete in European competitions.

Transfer window analysis

So far, West Ham made the right noises by signing the likes of Sebastien Haller of Eintracht Frankfurt and Pablo Fornals of Villareal.

These are fantastic additions as Haller was one of the most productive forwards in Europe last year, scoring 20 goals and providing 12 assists in all competitions.

Fornals is also an extremely creative player and they already have the likes of Felipe Andersen in the side, who is also a very creative player and can also chip in with goals.

Haller was a part of Frankfurt’s frightening attacking force that also had Luka Jovic and Ante Rebic. If Haller can combine with the West Ham attackers in a similar manner, the Hammers can be guaranteed plenty of goals.

They also have a very creative deep-lying playmaker in Jack Wilshere and it could be argued that West Ham have the most creative players in the league after Manchester City.

The opening fixture

West Ham have a difficult start to the season with a game against Manchester City but they can hold their own with someone like Haller in their team, who is a real aerial threat and could cause John Stones, Nicolas Otamendi and Aymeric Laporte a lot of problems.

Prediction

It would be a very bold prediction but West Ham could be looking at Chelsea’s lack of signings as an opportunity to break into the top-6 but it might still be a little too far-fetched to expect them to make it.

West Ham could break into the top-7 and surprise many. Hammers fan can go into this season looking forward to some fireworks.
