West Ham shelling out £12m to sign this towering 11-goal hitman would be a smart way to replace Arnautovic

West Ham Opinion – Should the Hammers sign Salomon Rondon?

According to a report in Express (h/t Mirror), West Ham United are set to launch a bid to sign West Brom striker Salomon Rondon during this transfer window. The Venezuelan star played for Newcastle United in the Premier League last season on loan from the Baggies.

As per the report, the Hammers have already seen a £10m player-plus-cash deal turned down, however, the player is understood to be available around £12m. (h/t Express)

Rondon has been a subject of interest from Newcastle as well but the uncertainty around that club has led to a situation where they haven’t offered a deal to him. (h/t Express)

On the other hand, West Ham could feel that they can lead this race and sign the striker. He has received interest from Rafa Benitez as well, who is in China right now. (h/t Sun)

Here’s why it’d be good for both parties if the Hammers manage to complete the deal to sign Rondon:

Hammers need someone up top

With Marko Arnautovic a subject of departure from West Ham, it would be ideal for the club if they manage to replace the Austrian before the start of next season.

If we take a look at their squad in depth, the Hammers do possess a lot of creative players but not many are there to finish off those chances and propel the team forward.

For that reason, they are right in pursuing a possible deal to sign Salomon Rondon. The Venezuelan striker played well for Newcastle last season, scoring 11 goals and supplying seven assists in 32 league appearances.

In terms of his attributes, he is physically strong, can hold the ball up, is lethal in the box, can take direct free-kicks and run the channels to stretch the opposition defence on the counter.

We know that he has received interest from Benitez, who is managing a team in China. While that is a good offer in terms of money, it would be better for him to stay in the Premier League and enhance his game and reputation.
