West Ham opinion: Should the Hammers make a move for Scott McTominay?
According to news outlet Sky Sports, West Ham have reportedly enquired if the club could sign Manchester United star Scott McTominay. The two sides have been in ongoing discussions over the transfer of Issa Diop and the report adds that during that phase, the Hammers have asked about McTominay.
The 22-year-old finished the season very well and that effectively made him amongst the club’s top-ten best players.
However, with the way Manchester United are conducting their business, Scott McTominay might just fail to have a starting spot next season. It’s one of the many reasons that West Ham need to consider winning the race.
Sure, the Hammers have already signed Pablo Fornals and have Mark Noble, Declan Rice, Pedro Obiang, Jack Wilshere and even Carlos Sanchez at the club.
But barring Noble and Rice, the other three have failed to make any impact what so ever. Wilshere in the year since he joined has been his usual injury prone self, with Obiang joining that list.
Sanchez, on the other hand, has been an utter disappointment and has fans bewildered as to why he was even signed. Things need to really change and that’s exactly what makes Scott McTominay the perfect catalyst to help them do that.
The addition of McTominay would boost things up next season and given how well the Scot has played for the Red Devils this season, it could be a great addition. Even if it is a short-term option, it allows the club to play the 22-year-old in multiple positions and see where they need reinforcements accordingly.
A talented and versatile player, McTominay has shown an ability to play as either a deeper defensive midfielder or in a more advanced box-to-box role. This will prove to solve a big problem for West Ham and it’s a move that will only help both sides.
The Hammers have all the power in the Diop deal so if they were to ask for McTominay to be added on plus cash, things might get very interesting. Things are progressing very fast and the ball is in West Ham’s court, with the world awaiting just what their decision will be.
Either they lose Diop outright and a get a lot of money in return or maybe take advantage and strip Manchester United of a few classy players.

Conclusion
It seems that after West Ham’s performances last season, more than a few stars have been targeted but that should come as no surprise.
Even if they lose Declan Rice to whoever is interested in him now, bringing in Scott McTominay will help ease the burden. If Rice stays, McTominay will complement the 20-year-old and together become a great combination.
