West Ham winning the race for this 24-year-old Turkish star would add some much-needed versatility to their ranks

West Ham Opinion: Irfan Can Kahveci would a good buy for the Hammers

According to a report from Turkish Football, West Ham are one of the clubs interested in signing Istanbul Basaksehir star, Irfan Can Kahveci.

Kahveci, 24, was one of the stars of Istanbul Basaksehir last season, bagging 4 goals and 5 assists in 32 games. He has two years remaining on his contract but following a strong 2018/19 campaign, his stock has risen and Basaksehir could consider selling him this summer.

Apart from West Ham, there are several sides from Spain, Italy and Germany interested in the Turkey international, the report adds.

West Ham have made some signings this summer so far as manager Manuel Pellegrini aims to challenge the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ next season. The Hammers have a quality squad but what they lack is strength in depth.

The East London outfit had their problems in the midfield last season, with Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere enduring lengthy spells on the sidelines, leaving Declan Rice, Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang to cover for themselves in the middle of the park.

Although Wilshere and Sanchez are fit ahead of the new season, Obiang’s potential departure this summer means Pellegrini should prioritise signing a new central midfielder.

Irfan Can Kahveci would be a brilliant fit at the London Stadium. He is an attack-minded midfield playmaker. The Turkey international prefers a central role in an advanced position but he can also operate on the wing if required.

The 24-year-old is a player who can be of use to West Ham in multiple areas of the pitch. He would offer cover in a variety of positions and provide versatility at a time where the Hammers get hit by injuries.

An excellent passer of the ball, Kahveci will offer creativity and dynamism to West Ham’s midfield. He is a very good dribbler, can beat his marker and make incisive passes in the final third for his teammates to make use of.

The Turkish midfielder possesses a lethal left foot and is renowned for his long-range shooting and ability to carve open the opposition with his trickery and vision.

He also offers tenacity and bite to the midfield as Kahveci never shies away from jumping into tackles to stop the opposition from advancing. The 24-year-old is a talented player who tries giving his everything on the pitch.

Verdict

Interest from all corners of Europe clearly speaks volumes about Kahveci’s reputation and talent. West Ham are in dire need of midfield reinforcements and they would do a smart job by landing the Turkish ace ahead of other European teams this summer.
