What does the future hold for this 28-year-old West Ham star after Man Utd legend’s arrival at the club?

Patrice Evra

What Does The Future Have In Store For Aaron Cresswell Following The Arrival Of Patrice Evra?

Following a disturbing incident in Ligue 1, Patrice Evra has finally opted to return to the Premier League, signing with West Ham United.

Since leaving Manchester United in 2014, the Frenchman spent a couple of years at Juventus before moving to Marseille, earlier last year. However, his contract at Marseille was rightfully terminated after kicking a fan but that hasn’t stopped West Ham from trying their luck with the 36-year-old, who signed a contract until the end of the season.

While there’s no doubt that his addition to the club will definitely boost West Ham’s defensive options, it could also prove to be detrimental to some of the first-team regulars. Aaron Cresswell, in particular, could lose his place in the starting lineup should Moyes opt for the Frenchman in the left-back position. And the likelihood of that happening is very high considering the fact that David Moyes has also worked with the Frenchman, during their time together at United.

Aaron Cresswell, on the other hand, has been one of Premier League’s highly rated fullbacks in the past few years. Since joining from Ipswich in the summer of 2014, the Englishman has earned himself a regular spot in the starting lineup, having made over 150 appearances for the Hammers as well as winning three caps for the England National Team.

This season has been no different either, as the 28-year-old has racked up over 2000 minutes of Premier League action, providing 4 assists in the process. That being said, however, the English international is probably experiencing his worst season yet at West Ham, acquiring a mediocre 1.08 points per match, which is apparently the lowest mark so far in his career.

Therefore, we shouldn’t be all too surprised should David Moyes opt to deploy the experienced Patrice Evra in the left-back position. That’s, however, not to say that Patrice Evra is a world-class defender either.

His deterioration has been massively evident ever since he departed from Manchester United in 2014. He was a fringe player during his time at both Juventus and Marseille and at the ripe old age of 36, he isn’t expected to provide much on the table either for West Ham United.

On the contrary, Patrice Evra’s acquisition could actually prove to be detrimental to the English national team, as he could potentially prove to be a step in the way of Aaron Cresswell, who is a serious candidate for the FA roster for the upcoming world cup. Therefore, having Patrice Evra could definitely hinder Cresswell’s progress this season, meaning he could run the risk of being left out from the 23-man shortlist for the World Cup in the summer.

Apart from that, however, the 28-year-old will be still regarded as the first-choice left-back for West Ham United in the long-term, considering the fact that Evra is more than expected to leave the club at the end of the season.
