What If Cedric Leaves? Here Are 2 Quality Replacements Southampton Could Sign Including This Liverpool Ace

Two Replacements For Cedric Soares Who Southampton Can Target

Southampton managed to finish in a decent position last season but that did not help Paul Clement keep his place at the club, and was soon replaced by Mauricio Pellegrino, who is having to face similar problems this summer. The Saints have lost at least a couple of first team stars on an average every season and this season has been no different.

Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk is on the cusp of an exit and if that was not enough, first choice full-back Cedric Soares, who had a superb time on the flank at the St Mary’s, is now a wanted star in the Capital city. According to reports, English Champions Chelsea, who missed out on Brazilian star Danilo to Manchester City, are now looking to make a move for Soares. Southampton may not be able to keep him at the club this summer and here are three alternatives they should look at, in case they end up losing him before the start of the season.

Matteo Darmian (Manchester United)

Though he not a popular choice at the moment, the Italian fullback is still an exciting prospect in Europe and is wanted by many clubs back in his home country. However, he has adjusted well to the conditions in England and has handled the pressures at Old Trafford really well. He was decent in the Europa League final as well and could yet find a place in the squad under the Portuguese manager next season.

If Mourinho spends on a new right-back, Darmian will not have a place in the squad and Southampton should definitely look to keep him in England and lure him to the St Mary’s this summer. Losing Soares will not be easy but Darmian, another international, can surely replace him this summer.

Jon Flanagan (Liverpool)

For all the players Southampton have lost to the Reds, they might be able to find themselves a superb option in Flanagan to replace the outgoing Portuguese right-back this summer. The Liverpool born defender can play on either side of the back line and though he is yet to prove himself at the highest level after coming back from an injury, he is a player who is tailor-made for the English league.

Klopp might want to keep him for another season but if the Saints come up with a decent offer, they might be able to lure the English international to the St Mary’s before the start of the season.
