What’s The Real Story Behind Barcelona’s £200m Deal With PSG? Cash-driven Or Success-motivated?

Motivated By Money? Or True Hunger For Success? – The Motive Behind Neymar’s Move To Paris Saint Germain

Neymar Dos Santos has always been an entity of sorts. Ever since Chelsea were first linked with a move for him, the Brazilian sensation has only gone from strength to strength. Having impressed at hometown club Santos, he made the move to Barcelona in order to grow big in his career. At Barca, he formed a deadly trio alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez and further proved his credentials.

He recently sealed a blockbuster move to PSG for a record £200m and has already bagged 3 goals in 2 games there. Along with that, he has 50 goals for the Selecao in 77 games. All this makes for very good reading and at 25, he has a lot of years left ahead of him. At the Parc Des Princes, he has become the main cog of the team.

At Barcelona, he was undoubtedly one of the key factors, but the thunder was shared by Suarez and Messi. Therefore, one can understand why Neymar wanted to move to PSG so badly. The monetary factor has to be taken into consideration too. 2 games into his PSG career, he has impressed astonishingly, especially in the second game against Toulouse where he made the headlines all by himself.

Many were astonished when the initial rumuors of him being linked with PSG surfaced. But one can now see why the Parisians shelled out such a high amount of moolah on him. They have made him the main star of the team and he has formed a deadly combination alongside the likes of Argentineans Javier Pastore and Angel Di Maria, Uruguayan Cavani and Frenchman Adrien Rabiot. PSG have a deadly team and could be one of the main contenders for the Champions League title.

At Barca, things were starting to get a little stagnant and not much progress was being made when it came to blockbuster signings. Neymar could’ve been tempted to stay if they had got Phillipe Coutinho but that’s a move they still haven’t finalised. So it was in Neymar’s best interests that he swapped Catalonia for Paris. At PSG, things look very clear for his progress as he looks forward to a long season of Ligue1 and Champions League football.

With PSG still being linked with Alexis Sanchez and Kylian Mbappe, they could yet get stronger and make a formidable team that could conquer Europe for seasons to come. At Barca, it was more of a team game with the main emphasis being on good passing and clinical finishing from the forwards. But at PSG, he has been allowed to take up a free role with him being allowed much more space and freedom to roam around in the final third, which affords him the chance to showcase his individuality and affect the game more.

Having said all that, there are many perpetrators who are criticising him for moving to an inferior league. But it’s up to Neymar to showcase his brilliance on the big stage and his roulette in Paris could yet win him the Ballon D’or award as his exploits can get recognised more than how it would’ve been at Barcelona.

All Neymar wanted was a team to carry on his shoulders, just like how Messi and Ronaldo are doing at Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively. He has now got what he wanted at this stage of his career, and if he manages to win the league title in France and the Champions League crown combined with a good performance in next year’s world cup, the Ballon D’or could be his for sure!
