Italian Or Polish? Which Of These Two Hull City Stars Does Newcastle United Need The Most?

Who Do Newcastle United Need The Most? – Andrea Ranocchia Or Kamil Grosicki

Rafa Benitez is looking to make early inroads in the transfer market, with wide men and a centre-back being right at the top of the wish list. Christian Atsu has already signed on a permanent deal from Chelsea, but further reinforcements are needed.

Reportedly, Italian centre-half Andrea Ranocchia has been offered to Newcastle and the club are considering his signing. The man from Assisi spent last season on loan at Hull City from Inter Milan and impressed for the most part, despite the Tigers’ relegation.

According to reports coming out of Poland, the club have also made a move for winger Kamil Grosicki, who signed for Hull in January after impressing for his country at Euro 2016. Grosicki would be a great value signing as well.

Newcastle seem to have a good relationship with Hull, signing Mo Diame from them last summer and also receiving a very positive report from them regarding Isaac Hayden who had also played his part in their promotion while on loan from Arsenal. If Newcastle could sign only one Tiger this time though, which one would it be?

It’s hard to compare players from two different positions and ultimately Newcastle need new players for both positions.

In 12 starts since signing in January Kamil Grosicki’s average rating was 6.59 on whoscored.com while Ranocchia managed 6.89 in his 15 starts. While Grosicki drew a blank, Ranocchia even chipped in with 2 goals and is particularly dangerous from set-pieces. The Polish winger did set up 3 goals in his time in the Premier League, though the Italian defender even got in on that act with 2 assists of his own.

In years gone by, being offered a defender with 21 caps for Italy would have been too much for Newcastle to even expect, though things are different now and if Ranocchia is so valuable, you do wonder why Inter don’t wish to keep him. That said, with what little we have to go on, he would seem to be the real deal in the Premier League and at 29, is right at his peak as a defender and he could be just what is needed for Newcastle while Mbemba, Lascelles and Clark are all still learning their trade.

Grosicki seems to be a player on the up and may yet be top class, but there are no guarantees of that and so with Atsu already signed, I would say they should take up their offer to sign Ranocchia in the first instance.
