Clement Lenglet has taken the footballing world by storm, attracting interest from the best clubs in Europe, including the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United.

Lenglet is a centre-back, who started his career with Nancy in Ligue 1. He was an important part of the Nancy side that won Ligue 2 and gained promotion to the French top division.

There was no looking back for Lenglet as he continued his stellar performances in Ligue 1. The 22-year-old moved to Sevilla in January 2017 and has continued his development in Spain.

He made himself at home at Sevilla and put in solid performances without even breaking a sweat. Despite being young, the 22-year-old showed incredible maturity and became one of the club’s best players. In the 2017/18 season Lenglet played a massive 54 games and besides helping at the back, he chipped in with four goals in all competitions.

Lenglet is a no-nonsense defender, who is pacy and is confident on the ball. He makes around two tackles per game, winning approximately 1.8 of those.

He stands tall at 6ft 2 and won 3.3 aerial duels per game in the Champions League last season. He also made 1.9 interceptions and more than 3.5 blocks per game. One could see why Jose Mourinho wants the youngster at Manchester United.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of the defender

He also possesses excellent passing and distribution skills. He is an excellent pass in him. Lenglet is able to switch play, launch attacks and play some inch-perfect long balls. Strikers try to press him but he denies them most of the times as he is very comfortable on the ball.

Besides Barcelona and Manchester United, Chelsea are also interested in Lenglet, whose present contract with Sevilla runs until 2021. The defender caught Jose Mourinho’s attention when Sevilla knocked United out of the Champions League in February. Sevilla value the Frenchman at around £31m, bargain in today’s inflated football market.

Lenglet is the ideal centre-back for any manager in the world as he can play in several systems. It remains to be seen which club ultimately win the race for the talented defender.
