Whom Should This Spaniard Play For? Real Madrid or Manchester United?

David de gea

The longest transfer saga finally came to be ending, the transfer window is shut and David de Gea remains a United player. That will be the case until the winter transfer window opens and then the rumours can circulate again about the Spanish goalkeeper’s future.

De Gea seems to have his heart set on Real Madrid and has not featured for United since the start of the Premier League campaign, but with his fate sealed at Old Trafford, he has to make up his mind and come back stronger if he wants to feature for Spain in the Euros.

So we land up at a question whether Manchester United or Real Madrid, where should he play this season?

Home is where De heart is:

De Gea hasn’t been the most vocal about where he wants to play, it is only Louis van Gaal, the Manchester United manager who has stated that De Gea isn’t in the right frame of mind, which is why the Spaniard was dropped from the United team and has not featured so far. If any player isn’t in the right frame of mind, he shouldn’t be anywhere near the team and that is exactly what United have done.

The club should however have sold De Gea at the start of the window as they knew Real Madrid were going to make a bid for him. Keeping him at the club for this long hasn’t helped both the club and the player. De Gea would have been happy with a move back to his native country and with a club like Real Madrid calling, how can you say no?

Manchester United could have kept hold of the young goalkeeper had they been in a position to challenge for a trophy but from what we have seen so far this season, they are far off from being guaranteed a top four position, let alone winning a trophy. De Gea and every top player in the world actually wants to win trophies, at Real Madrid, he will have a greater chance of winning things than he has at Manchester United, based on the strength of the squads. Rafa Benitez is a great manager when it comes to cup competitions and even won La Liga back in the 2000’s with an unfancied Valencia team which beat the odds to defeat Barcelona and Real to two La Liga titles.

De Gea would make a great addition to any team and moving to Real Madrid ticks all the right boxes for the Spanish ace, United should have gotten him to sign a long term contract last season, letting his contract end up in the final 12 months is a cardinal sin for any club, especially when it is for a player that actually won them more points than anyone else. De Gea had a great time at United and now he should be given the chance to do well for a club he loves, Real Madrid.

Maybe next year!
