Who’s This £15m-Rated Centre-Back Attracting Attention From Arsenal And Spurs? All You Need To Know

Scout Report – Jannik Vestergaard

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in a January move for Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Jannik Vestergaard. The 25-year-old has been in spectacular form for the German club, helping them go up to 6th spot in the Bundesliga standings.

His defensive prowess is top-notch and the player is also quite generous when it comes to attacking. With the January window up and running, both Tottenham and Arsenal will be in need of reinforcements and Vestergaard does seem like a viable option.

Estimated to be valued at £15million, the player could prove to be quite a coup. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look at his profile.

History

Born in 1992 in Hvidovre, Denmark, Vestergaard embarked on his football journey and played as a youth star for Brondby. After honing and developing his skills at the youth side, Vestergaard then joined 1899 Hoffenheim in 2010. He progressed through the ranks and quickly established himself as one of their most note-worthy players, following which he moved to Werder Bremen in 2015. Despite spending hardly a year with Bremen, Vestergaard made the decision to join Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016 and has been one of their most instrumental players ever since.

As far as his international career goes, Vestergaard has played at every level for Denmark – right from the U18 to U23 and is currently a part of the Denmark senior side.

Playing Style

A defensively stoic centre-back by nature, Vestergaard is also quite adept at surging forward and contributing to the attack. In fact, he has scored 3 goals this season and seems quite comfortable with attacking. The player is wonderfully strong in the air and is known to win an average of 3.6 aerial duels per game.

He is particularly strong at making clearances and makes a whopping 4.8 clearances a game, thus making him sound like a quality option indeed. The player is quite strong at tackling as well and seems like a strong, all-around defensive option.

Vestergaard’s Future

With interest stemming from both Arsenal and Spurs, it will be interesting to see which club ultimately signs him. As seen from his skills and stats, he boasts of tremendous skill and potential and he could work wonders for either the two North London clubs.

At Spurs, Mauricio Pochettino is in dire need of boosting his depth in central defence whereas at Arsenal, Arsene Wenger needs to inject some young talent to his forces at the back. Regardless of where he goes, there is no doubt that Vestergaard will be a quality signing.
