Who’s this £30m-rated Tottenham and Liverpool target from the Bundesliga? All you need to know

Scout Report – Benjamin Pavard

As per a report from The Mirror, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are set to engage in a two-way tussle to sign Stuttgart centre-back Benjamin Pavard. The player is estimated to be valued at £30million and both clubs are increasingly likely to sign him once the summer transfer window rolls about.

The report further claims that the Bundesliga outfit are keen to hold on to the talented youngster but with two English powerhouse sides fighting to sign him, Pavard might be tempted to take the bait. He might be just 21 years old but he is extremely good at what he does and it comes as no surprise that Liverpool and Spurs are looking to sign him.

But is he worth a £30million price tag? Let’s take a closer look at his profile.

History

Born in 1996 in Maubeuge, France, Pavard played for US Beaumont as a youth star but he started impressing at quite an early age. That led to interest from Lille and they signed him in 2005. His prolific displays helped him progress through the ranks quite quickly and Pavard soon established himself as one of their most promising young stars. Eventually, he started making a few appearances for the first-team but he chose to leave the club in 2016.

That was when Stuttgart appeared in the fray and expressed an interest in him. Pavard inked a four-year contract with them and has been a solid performer for the German club since then. In fact, it was only last December that the club extended his contract until June 2021 as a reward for his sensational performances.

As far as his international career is concerned, he has made quite a number of appearances for the France U19 and U21 teams. In addition to that, he is now a regular for the France senior team as well.

Playing Style

Pavard is an excellent defender and he is extremely mature in the way he plays his game. For example, he never makes rash tackles and only commits to tackles he knows he can complete. That is due to quick decision-making on the field which is fueled by his technical knowledge. Also, he can hold his own in almost every department and he is quite tall as well, thus making him a gem in aerial encounters.

His positional awareness is commendable and Pavard can offer adequate support to the team in offensive situations as well.

Pavard’s Future

With interest coming from both Tottenham and Liverpool, it remains to be seen if either side actually succeeds in landing him. If Liverpool sign him, he could act as a solid defensive partner for Virgil van Dijk. At Tottenham, he would be a nice option to boost squad depth since they have a strong central defence already. Hence, given his skills, Pavard is a brilliant player and he could work wonders for any team he joins.
