Who’s This Young £2million Defensive Midfielder Being Targeted By Arsenal? Everything You Need To Know

Tristan Nydam

Scout Report – Tristan Nydam

Arsenal are being linked with Ipswich Town starlet Tristan Nydam and are reportedly preparing a £2million bid to land the youngster. The 18-year-old midfielder is understood to have been on Arsene Wenger’s radar for quite some time as the French manager is increasingly keen on bringing in more youth talent to his squad. Over the years, the Gunners have been renowned for developing youngsters and have now set their target on Nydam.

Wenger has a rich history of poaching lower division sides to procure young faces. For example, the manager signed Rob Holding from Championship side Bolton and if everything goes well, Nydam could be the latest player to be added to that list. Let’s take a look at Nydam’s profile.

History

Born in 1999 in Zimbabwe, Nydam moved to England when he was 10 years old. He lived in Colchester and joined Ipswich’s academy in 2008 as a schoolboy. It was in July last year that he signed a scholarship with the institution. He signed his first professional contract towards the end of 2016. Since then, the player has progressed through the ranks and has firmly established himself as one of Ipswich’s brightest young prospects.

He represents England at the international level and made his debut for the U18 side earlier this year. The player also featured in the U19 squad in September where he started in a game against Poland which England won 7-1.

Playing Style

A naturally defensive midfielder, Nydam can exert a considerable amount of dominance in dictating the pace of the play, which is quite incredible for a player so young. Adept at passing and dribbling, the starlet is also strong in helping the smooth transition from attack to defence.

He seems to have a knack for playing long balls but the player does struggle during aerial encounters. Furthermore, Nydam is quite weak when it comes to tackling.

Nydam’s Future

A future at Arsenal will certainly seem enticing for the youngster. There will not be much scope for growth for him at Ipswich and in that regard, the Gunners do seem like an upgrade. Of course, he will not immediately receive first-team opportunities but he has the potential to fight for a spot. Also, Eddie Nketiah’s recent impact will certainly be encouraging enough for Nydam to consider a move.

That said, Ipswich are likely to be hesitant in letting one of their best starlets leave the club so soon. However, they could be tempted into relenting with a solid amount.
