Why A January Raid On Man United Midfielder Would Give Leeds The Absolute Chance To Fight For Promotion

Why Scott McTominay Could Be The Ideal Signing For Leeds

Manchester United’s highly rated attacking midfielder Scott McTominay has attracted the interest of many Championship clubs as they are plotting a January loan move for the youngster. The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the club’s brightest future talents with manager Jose Mourinho apparently very keen to retain him long term.

McTominay has been training with the first team squad for most of this season and has made a few cameo appearances in the cup competitions, though it’s thought that Mourinho wants him to get some proper game time which has piqued the interest of Bolton, Leeds and Preston among others.

As of now, there is no guarantee he’ll be allowed to leave with concerns present over both Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini but should one or both of those players’ fears be allayed, a loan move could very much be on the cards.

McTominay has been representing Scotland and their national setup are very optimistic of him becoming a top star for the national side in the years to come, though I’m sure the powers that be around Hampden Park would prefer to have him play regular competitive football.

McTominay, he has been of the topmost prospects for Man United in recent seasons and many a club has been after his short-term services.  He has now broken into the first-team squad at Old Trafford of course but is still quite a way from being considered as one of Mourinho’s go-to players.

The 21-year-old made a big leap by making his Champions League debut against Benfica and, though he is highly rated publicly by Mourinho, he may worry about the manager’s penchant for playing only those with proven experience, despite the Portuguese man’s kind comments.

Mourinho stated recently that McTominay is in line to follow the likes of Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford into the first-team at Man United and that he is now no longer considered for a loan move away. The player also signed a new deal at Old Trafford which keeps him at the club until 2021, though should all of their forwards retain their fitness and form, it would make good sense for McTominay to go out for a few months and play regular football.

Leeds seem very keen to have a busy January and given the gap between the Championship and Premier League in terms of wages, a good loan move would be sensible for them to attempt to attract the talent to get them promoted before re-examining the situation in the summer.
