Why A Move For This 22-year Old West Ham Star Would Be A Life Saver For Arsenal This Season

Hector Bellerin

Arsenal have been looking to sign a lot of high quality players in the current transfer window, as they wish to challenge for the Premier League title in the upcoming campaign and compete for other cups as well. Keeping that in mind, Arsene Wenger has been looking at quite a few options to add to his current squad, in order to fill in the voids. The French manager has not just been trying to sign players upfront, but in the defence as well.

From center-backs to left-backs to even more right-backs, the Gunners have been linked with so many players, though the north London outfit have not signed any additional defensive options so far.

One such player who has been associated with a move to the Emirates in recent times has been former Leeds United man Sam Byram, who joined West Ham in 2016.

The 22 year old Englishman is a young right back and was linked with the north London giants in recent times, though Wenger already has Hector Bellerin as his first choice.

The problem that the Arsenal boss faces is that Mathieu Debuchy seems all set to leave the club as reported, due to the lack of first team football which saw him being dropped from the French national side as well.

On the other hand, Calum Chambers and Carl Jenkinson are just not good enough to fill in the shoes of the Spaniard, in case he is rested or gets injured, due to which arises the need of yet another option and Wenger is now looking to sign Byram.

The defender made 28 appearances in total for Leeds in the previous campaign and scored thrice and claimed an assist as well. He put in some decent performances and a manager like Wenger can really nurture him to become a top player some day.

His passing and ability to go into aerial challenges is a huge asset for him, which can help the Londoners in the near future, if Bellerin decides to ever leave them or is rested.

Though the former Barcelona man will still be Wenger’s first choice, Byram will make a good understudy and a backup as well, with the other available players possibly sent away on loan or sold.

It does not seem Jenkinson has a future at Arsenal and Chambers will be sent out temporarily, as he has really looked poor when given the chances to showcase his talent in recent times.

However, one needs to remember that the young defender made just four appearances at Upton Park last term and the player will need some time and regular action, before he can totally take up the role.

Some of the senior players can guide him and help him settle down at the club soon, in case a move does go through in the upcoming days.
