Crystal Palace signing this 19-year-old Irish starlet would secure their future at right-back

Why Andy Lyons to Crystal Palace would be a good move for the future

According to the Irish Sun, Crystal Palace are keen on Bohemian’s teenage right-back Andrew Lyons.

Lyons, 19, also seems to have re-signed for Bohemians for next season and his move away from Dalymount looks inevitable, according to reports.

The youngster came through the ranks of the Bohemians youth team and made his senior debut against Derby City in the League Cup. Since then, he has racked up 26 appearances for the Gypsies.

Considered as one of the most exciting talents back home, Lyons has a great future ahead of him. Given his qualities, he is sure to succeed at the highest level.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace, who are keen on the 19-year-old, are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League. Their success has been hampered due to their unconvincing displays and the players seem to be unconvincing.

If there is one area of concern in the team, that would be their right-back position. The Eagles did not sign any replacements after the departure of Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United in the summer.

Roy Hodgson decided to go into the new season with veteran duo Martin Kelly and Joel Ward. This decision has not paid off well as both of them together have just contributed 1 assist to the team. Their duties in defensive situations have not been remarkable so far.

In regard to this, Crystal Palace should make a move for Andy Lyons, who has made a name for himself in the Irish Premier League. Martin Kelly (29) and Joel Ward (30) are both at the end of their careers, while Lyons (19) is coming to the fore.

Palace don’t have any other established right-back other than the two and as the season goes by, it would be difficult for them to keep their fitness level intact. They might play for another few years and if Palace bring in Lyons, it would be a good decision.

The Irishman is known to be fast with his feet and giving him rare opportunities with the Eagles’ senior team could benefit him in his development. He still has many years left to shine in the Premier League but he can be nurtured with Palace’s reserve teams.
