Why Unai Emery is doing the right thing by giving a new contract to Iwobi
Alex Iwobi is set to sign a new contract with Arsenal after the green signal from new manager Unai Emery. The Nigerian international came through the Gunners academy and was handed his first-team debut three years ago by Arsene Wenger.
The 22-year-old hasn’t been able to take his chances previously, producing inconsistent performances, much to the frustration of the Arsenal fans. However, he has the potential and the talent to shine on the big stage, the reason. Emery perhaps believes he can get the best out of the player and enable him to exhibit his true worth.

We all know the fact that not all young players groom quickly and enhance their game to another level in a flash. Few take time and require proper man management to perform at their best on the pitch. Maybe Iwobi is in the latter category, who needs patience and good coaching to show his true talent, which he has in abundance
Here’s why Iwobi needs another chance at the Emirates, under the new management:
The Nigerian has shown glimpses of his brilliant aptitude to convince us that he can be a regular part of this Arsenal team. Emery is doing the right thing by deciding to keep the player and manage him in the right way. The Spaniard is known for getting the best out of players in challenging situations, which Iwobi would like.
Maybe, the other rationale is that the 22-year-old may perform better when a manager “kicks on his back”, just like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who couldn’t fulfil his potential at Arsenal, only to go to Liverpool and shine under a passionate Jurgen Klopp.
Ox stated that under Wenger, it was all too nice and cosy, which didn’t suit him. So, Iwobi might also benefit from the fact that Emery is a hard taskmaster, who will be tough on him when he performs poorly. This can help the player two-fold in terms of his development, as he certainly has failed under the soft-spoken management.
