Why Arsenal must take a gamble and sign this want-away French star for £60million

According to a report by The Metro, Manchester United star Anthony Martial’s agent has confirmed that the player is on the lookout for an exit from Old Trafford this summer.

While many Red Devils fans might be displeased with the news, it goes without saying that leaving Manchester United might be a good move for the young Frenchman. Despite his abundance of talent and potential, Jose Mourinho has thus far failed to extract the best out of him.

Since his arrival at United from Monaco in the summer of 2015, Martial has been inconsistent with his performances. But one cannot deny the impact he made for the club last season. At a time when United’s attack looked toothless and weak, the pacy winger often saved their skins with his blistering pace and creativity.

He thrives in the left-wing role and it almost looked like he had established himself in that position. But then came the January transfer window, which saw Alexis Sanchez join the Red Devils from Arsenal.

The Chilean superstar obviously boasts of greater experience and it would have been unwise for Mourinho to not utilise him regularly.

Thus, Martial started spending more time on the bench as Sanchez was deployed ahead of him. To make things worse, Mourinho continued to keep Martial out even at times when it was obvious that Sanchez was not in the best of forms.

In such a situation, it is tough for a youngster such as Martial to grow and develop further. And as per reports, Arsenal are one of the clubs harbouring an interest in him.

New manager Unai Emery is working hard to usher in a new era at the Emirates Stadium and signing a pacy attacker such as Martial would certainly help his cause. A report from the Evening Standard claims that United are demanding a fee of £60m for Martial which is way out of Arsenal’s budget.

However, it is a gamble Arsenal must take. They already boast of a thunderous attacking department which includes the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Mesut Ozil and Martial’s former teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

With the 22-year-old winger in the mix, Arsenal could be unstoppable in the seasons to come. Hence, the Gunners must take the plunge and sign Martial this summer.
