Why Arsenal over Liverpool would be a better destination for this £28m German sensation

Why Arsenal Over Liverpool Would Be A Better Destination For Kerem Demirbay

Kerem Demirbay has been one of the most sensational players in the Bundesliga this season and if latest reports are to be believed, he could be on his way to the Premier League this summer. English giants Liverpool and Arsenal are both set to battle it out to acquire his signature. Currently playing for Hoffenheim, the 24-year-old is a central midfielder by trade and he does seem like an exciting prospect for both clubs.

Demirbay has been in impressive form for Hoffenheim so far, which has eventually earned him two caps for the German national team. He moved to the club from Hamburg in 2016 and is regarded as a promising up-and-coming midfielder.

He has gradually managed to establish himself as one of their key players and has contributed two goals and a solitary assist so far this season. Estimated to be valued at £28m, it is understood that both Arsenal and Liverpool have contacted Demirbay’s agent regarding a possible deal.

While there is no doubt that Demirbay would be a valuable addition to either of the two clubs, a lot could depend on the clubs’ business activities in the summer.

Jack Wilshere has been in stunning form for Arsenal ever since he returned to the first-team this season but there have been reports suggesting that Liverpool could be interested in a move for him. The Reds are likely to lose out on Emre Can, who is expected to join Juventus on a free transfer in the summer.

However, it still makes more sense for Arsene Wenger to actively pursue him. Although Liverpool might lose Can, one must note that they have already secured a mega-money deal for Naby Keita. The player will arrive at Anfield in the summer and he would slot right into the void left behind by Can.

At Arsenal though, Wenger will face a shortage of quality options if Wilshere were to leave at the end of this season. Aaron Ramsey is back from his injury and that is a huge boost for the French coach but it will be crucial for the Gunners to bring in a player to replace Wilshere.

Hence, to that end, Demirbay is likely to receive greater playing opportunities at Arsenal. He is a creative player and he can work wonders with a lethal striker like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leading the line. At present, Demirbay will be out for a good period of time after sustaining an ankle injury during Hoffenheim’s 1-1 draw against Hertha Berlin but he should return to full fitness in a matter of weeks and finish the season on a strong note.
