Why Arsenal over Tottenham would be a better destination for this £36.5m Brazilian sensation

Why Arsenal over Tottenham would be right for Malcom

According to reports in the Sun, Arsenal and Tottenham are looking to make a shock move to sign Barcelona starlet Malcom. The report says that the north London clubs have even contacted the Spanish giants regarding any possibility of a deal.

Malcom joined the Camp Nou for £36.5m in the summer, snubbing an AS Roma switch at the last moment. However, he has struggled to make an impact under Ernesto Valverde. The 21-year-old has only managed to play 25 minutes of La Liga football thus far, which is an underwhelming return to a potentially high-profile move.

As a result of that, Premier League clubs are showing interest in him in order to give him a fresh start. And if we take a look at Arsenal and Tottenham, the Brazilian would fit better at the former. Here’s why:

Malcom a better fit for Arsenal

We all know about the Aaron Ramsey situation at Arsenal. The Welshman is almost certain to leave the Emirates after seeing out his contract this season. However, regardless of whether the 27-year-old goes or not, Unai Emery’s men could do well to sign Malcom.

It is because of the simple reason that the club needs a winger in its squad. The manager’s 4-2-3-1 system requires two out-and-out wingers who can hug the touchline and stretch the pitch for the defenders. Right now, Alex Iwobi is the only genuine winger in the squad. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who plays in the wide areas, is actually a striker.

Malcom is best suited to playing on the right wing, but the Brazilian is very adept at either wing, which is an advantage. His pace, crossing, dribbling and shots could be a set of deadly weapons to enhance Arsenal as an attacking force.

Why not Tottenham?

It is true that Spurs need fresh faces in their squad after failing to buy one in the summer. But they have other areas to worry about before spending money on a winger. Hence, signing Malcom wouldn’t be a right option for them in the current scheme of things.

Verdict

After a great start to the season, Arsenal would be looking to further improve their squad in the winter window to get better.

Emery’s project is on the right track so far and it can become smoother if Malcom is signed sooner than later.
