Arsenal should blindly make this Celtic star their priority once the summer window opens – opinion

Arsenal Opinion: Should Arsenal make a move for Kieran Tierney?

The summer transfer window can’t come fast enough for Arsenal, who have suffered their fair share of injury issues. But more so, they need reinforcements.

While Sokratis has impressed since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund, the Gunners need at least another center-back, a back-up right-back and left-back amidst many other players.

However, things didn’t work out for them in the winter window. It should change in the summer though, and while Arsenal may not have the biggest budget, there a few players who can be sold to make up the difference.

But if the Gunners want to be a part of the title or even top four conversations next season, then what they really need is Celtic star Kieran Tierney’s services.

They were after the left-back a few years ago but he rejected a move to the Emirates Stadium, thanks in part to Brendan Rodgers’ insistence. The 21-year-old even revealed as much in an interview with the Daily Record, and went on to sign a six-year deal in October 2017.

However, the Scottish international’s skill-set is exactly what Arsenal need at the moment and that combined with his age, makes him a must-have.

Kieran Tierney

Despite being only 21 years old, Tierney has shown composure and talent well beyond his age and unlike fellow Scottish star Andrew Robertson, the Celtic star is a two-way man. Much like Nacho Monreal, Tierney plays both the offensive and the defensive part of the game very well.

That combined with his athleticism, stamina and aggression shown for Celtic means that he can slot straight into Unai Emery’s team. While this would prove to be a problem for Sead Kolasinac, Tierney can provide competition at a position that Arsenal need reinforcements.

While Nacho Monreal is a great option to have, the Spaniard is 33 years old and isn’t getting any younger.

Sead Kolasinac, on the other hand, was supposed to be the Spaniard’s long-term replacement. Whild the Bosnian has been great, his defensive talents aren’t up to the mark.

While there is a possibility he could improve under Unai Emery, that’s not a chance that Arsenal should take when they have a chance to sign Kieran Tierney.

Conclusion

When the club first tried to make a move, only Brendan Rodgers stood in their way but with the former Liverpool boss now joining Leicester City, a summer move might be more than plausible.
