Arsenal opinion: Gunners should hijack deal for Douglas Costa
According to Le10 Sport, Paris Saint-Germain are said to rival Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea for the signature of Juventus winger Douglas Costa. The Brazilian has had a poor season so far, having scored just one goal in 24 appearances so far this season.
The Brazilian’s performances haven’t been the only matter of concern for the Old Lady as Costa had previously angered the Juventus hierarchy after irresponsible behaviour away from the football pitch. Costa was involved in a horrific car accident earlier this year but luckily came out unscathed.
However, the Brazilian immediately left the country to celebrate his countryman Neymar’s birthday in Paris. This annoyed the Italian champions to an extent that Costa was dropped for their following game against Sassuolo in the Serie A.
Despite his off-field antics, Costa is an incredible footballer and on his day, he can be an unstoppable force for his team. In his previous season at Turin, Costa provided a stunning 13 assists in the Serie A and was a mainstay in the squad.
An incredibly tricky winger with frightening pace, Costa has the ability to take on a number of defenders and outfox them to get away into free space. The Brazilian also possesses a stunning left foot and has the intelligence to know when to have a shot and when to go wide and cross.
Arsenal should look to hijack the move for Douglas Costa this summer and the Brazilian would be a phenomenal addition on either wing for the Gunners. Unai Emery’s side were linked (Calciomercato h/t the Sun) with a €90m move for the Brazilian last summer and must revive their interest.
The Gunners have struggled for width this season and have been forced to play the likes of Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang out on the wings.
Costa’s ability to cause damage on either wing will be a gift to the Gunners and his trickery on the ball is sure to excite the Emirates faithful. The 28-year-old, if played on the right wing, will form a scary partnership with another speedster, Hector Bellerin.
The duo’s pace could be used to devastating effect by Emery and their balls into the box will be welcomed with open arms by Alexandre Lacazette and Aubameyang.
On the left wing, Costa will be an incredible upgrade over Alex Iwobi, who, although has done well so far, is vastly inexperienced with his decision-making in the final third.
Douglas Costa along with the power of Sead Kolasinac on Arsenal’s left flank is a mouth-watering prospect and will certainly boost the Gunners’ attacking prowess.
Mesut Ozil’s through balls combined with Costa’s speedy runs has the potential to unlock any defence in the world and would set the Emirates on fire.
