Arsenal letting go of their £55k-a-week star would be a massive blunder by Unai Emery and he must avoid it

Arsenal opinion: Emery shouldn’t let Mohamed Elneny go

ESPN (h/t Fotospor) has revealed that Arsenal fringe star Mohamed Elneny could find his way out of the club in the summer. The Egyptian joined the club in January 2016 and has since been among the club’s best rotation options for Arsenal.

However, this season, things have changed for Elneny, especially with the arrival of Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torriera. The two midfield stars arrived in the summer and have since become a big part of Unai Emery’s team.

Since they’re both young, they could be long-term midfield options for Emery, which does pose a problem for Elneny. However, despite all that, Arsenal are set to lose Aaron Ramsey to Juventus, with the Welshman leaving at the end of his contract (Guardian).

It will be an immense loss for Arsenal given just how good the 28-year-old has been in his 11-year tenure with the club. Replacing him will be one of the hardest things that Arsenal may have to do and they cannot lose another midfielder in the process.

While Mohamed Elneny isn’t the biggest star in the team, he’s a man who is a big part of the team.

Under legendary manager Arsene Wenger, the £55,000-a-week Egyptian trained to play as a centre-back too and did relatively well in that position, thanks to his composure and defensive nuance.

However, it’s as a midfielder that the 26-year-old flourishes, and has the ability to play regular Premier League football for top clubs. For Arsenal, that’s something they need, especially given the burden that a 60-game season puts on the team.

They currently play Europa League football, and the Egyptian’s presence there has been crucial. In fact, without Elneny, there would have been a few losses added to Arsenal’s Europa League group stage games this season.

The Egyptian’s ability is something that Arsenal have missed since losing Francis Coquelin. While Lucas Torriera has added bite to the midfield, Elneny can help the Uruguayan rest for a few games in between.

Conclusion

Mohamed Elneny isn’t the best player in the world but the Egpytian is among the best rotation players in Arsenal’s squad and that is an option that the club cannot afford to lose at the moment.
