12 goals, 17 assists – Aston Villa would be absolutely smart to go for this brilliant £20m star

Why Aston villa would be quite smart to splash £20m on Said Benrahma

Back in August, The Express had claimed that Aston Villa were hopeful of signing Brentford’s Said Benrahma after securing a spot in the Premier League. However, Villa failed to secure his services in the summer.

That said, manager Dean Smith remains interested in the winger and hopes to sign him in the January transfer window, according to Birmingham Live.

Interestingly, Smith signed the Algerian from French outfit Nice during his time at Brentford.

Benrahma is currently in his second season with the Bees and in 51 Championship matches, he has registered 12 goals and 17 assists. The 48-year-old boss would be wise to boost his attacking forces with Benrahma.

Despite having a bunch of talents at his disposal, Smith’s team are placed a lowly 15th in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old Algerian is capable of adding power to Aston Villa’s attack. Therefore, to save themselves from relegation, the club should finalize a deal with Brentford and take Benrahma on board for the second part of the season.

Since his arrival, Benrahma has been working wonders on the right flank and is a prominent member of Thomas Frank’s squad. In his 14 league games so far, the winger has scored and assisted twice respectively.

According to Whoscored, Benrahma has registered an average of 3.3 shots, 2.2 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per game in the Championship this season. He has also enjoyed a passing accuracy of 77.8%.

At Villa, he could be an influential figure alongside Wesley. The centre-forward is currently the Villans’ top scorer with 4 goals.

Verdict

Brentford value the winger at £20m and this would be a good chance for Aston Villa to sign him after failing previously.

With Benrahma at his disposal, Dean Smith would be able to add a different dimension to his attack.
