Liverpool signing this £20m Brighton starlet would sort out their defensive future

Why Ben White would be a good future signing for Liverpool

The Athletic (h/t Metro) has credited Liverpool with a genuine interest in Brighton and Hove Albion youngster Ben White, who is currently on loan with Leeds United.

The centre-back has received rave reviews for his performances with Leeds in the Championship this season. He has been a key member of Marco Bielsa’s side, who are aiming to get back to the top-tier of English football next season.

White came through the youth ranks of Brighton after moving to the Amex Stadium from Southampton at the age of 16. Though he is yet to make a senior appearance for his parent club, White has been impressive for Leeds this season. He was previously sent on loan to Peterborough and Newport County.

This season has been a breakthrough for the Englishman as he has been rock-solid for the Whites. Leeds have kept 8 clean sheets so far in their 16 games and White deserves the appreciation for his performances at the heart of the defence.

Currently, Bielsa’s team are 2nd in the Championship table and White has started in all the games so far. The youngster extended his contract with Brighton in April 2018 that would keep him with the Seagulls until the summer of 2022.

The highly-rated youngster, who is on Liverpool’s radar, has made the most use of his opportunities at Leeds. His performances have caught the eyes of last year’s Champions League winners, thus proving his worth at a young age of 22.

Though they are on top of the table, they have managed just 2 clean sheets this season. This is where Ben’s White inclusion in the team would be handy for Klopp.

Previously, Liverpool Echo reported of Dejan Lovren’s move away from the club as he was frustrated with his limited game time and if the Croatian decides to leave in the near future, Ben White would be a perfect replacement for the World Cup finalist.

A calm and collective customer on the ball, White has registered 1.9 tackles, 2.9 interceptions, and 3.6 clearances per game in the Championship. He also has an impressive pass accuracy rate of 85.5%. [Whoscored]

Though his chances in Liverpool may not come early, White can steadily develop his game under the guidance of Klopp and star defender Virgil Van Dijk.

He should be able to grab his rare opportunities right from the beginning and start making an impact to gain the manager’s trust. He is also capable of playing as a right-back.

Verdict

Ben White has a huge future ahead of him and given his performances this season, Liverpool must secure his services at the earliest. Though it seems like Brighton have no intention of selling him, Liverpool must grab the player by shelling out £20m on the centre-back.

Therefore Liverpool’s move for White would be a perfect signing for the future.
