Bournemouth signing this top-class Stoke star in the summer would solve a big problem for Eddie Howe

Bournemouth Opinion: Should the Cherries sign Jack Butland?

If there is one thing that Bournemouth need in the summer window, it’s another goalkeeper. While they have Asmir Begovic, the Bosnian has been out of favour at the club since the turn of the year.

Multiple reports from Sky Sports, Daily Mail and the Mirror have all revealed about a bust-up between manager Eddie Howe and Begovic. Since then, Artur Boruc has taken over the reigns but the Polish international is 39 years old.

This leaves the club with a huge problem and one that the Cherries need to sort out before the start of next season. But they do have options and one of the options is brining Jack Butland back to the Premier League.

The Stoke City goalkeeper is being wasted in the Championship and given the fact that the Potters are struggling, things could get worse.

The 25-year-old is in the middle of his best years as a footballer and is among England’s best in his position. More so, few players have been as good as Butland was in the Premier League.

At 6’4”, Butland has a great reach but what should attract Eddie Howe is the fact that despite his height and his size, the English international is very agile.

That combined with his reflexes, which are much better than Begovic or Boruc makes him an absolute must-have. This is because for a club like Bournemouth, with their transfer budget, there won’t be anyone as affordable as Jack Butland.

To find someone as affordable as the Stoke City man, the Cherries would once again have to target someone north of 29 years old, and that cannot be a viable option for too much longer. But at 25 years of age Butland falls well within the affordable margin for Bournemouth and Eddie Howe.

All that’s left is to make a move and it won’t be too hard to convince Butland to join the Premier League side. A move back to the top-tier will also convince Gareth Southgate that Jack Butland is among the top English goalkeepers in the scene.

However, given the Englishman’s talent, there are bound to be a few clubs after him, but if the Cherries make their move first, few can stop them.
