Man Utd’s goalscoring woes would come to an end if Solskjaer signs this 15-goal Englishman – Agreed?

Why Callum Wilson would be a fantastic fit at Manchester United

According to a report from the Metro, Manchester United are keeping tabs on Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson ahead of a potential summer swoop.

Callum Wilson, 27, scored 15 goals in all competitions last season for the Cherries that saw pick up three England caps, scoring a goal. He has continued his good form in front of goal, bagging four goals in six games thus far in the new Premier League campaign.

The England international’s rollicking start to the new season has now attracted the attention of Manchester United, who are eyeing a move for him at the end of 2019/20.

However, the Red Devils should look to sign Wilson in January itself by testing Bournemouth’s resolve with an audacious bid.

United already spent a lot of money on British stars, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Daniel James and Harry Maguire this summer.

While all the new signings have undoubtedly been the club’s best players in the opening few weeks of the new campaign, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are struggling and already find themselves 10-points behind table-toppers Liverpool.

Having sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan and allowed Alexis Sanchez to join the Serie A outfit earlier this summer, Solskjaer took the bold decision to head into the current campaign with just three front-line strikers: Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.

Martial has missed three games in all competitions through injury, leaving United light upfront. And now, Rashford will also be sidelined for some time after suffering a groin injury during the 2-0 defeat to West Ham on Sunday.

It’ll be completely unfair to rely on the young shoulders of Greenwood for consistently supply of goals, but following injuries to Martial and Rashford, that’s something we might see happening in the new few games.

That’s exactly why the Red Devils shouldn’t wait until summer and go all out to sign Callum Wilson in the mid-season trading period.

Wilson had the best year of his playing career last season when he scored 14 goals and grabbed ten assists in 30 league appearances.

Blessed with blistering pace, power and physicality, the England international can make well-timed runs behind the opposition defence and finish off chances. He is a ruthless finisher in front of goal and has proven his worth in the Premier League.

The former Coventry City man can also hold the ball up well to bring others into play, whilst capable of creating chances out of nothing in the final third.

Strong in the air and a clinical goalscorer, Wilson will undoubtedly bolster Solskjaer’s attacking options as well as provide competition for Rashford and Martial for a starting berth at Old Trafford.

Verdict

All in all, Wilson will be a perfect fit for the Red Devils as they are in dire need of a prolific goalscorer to fill the void left by Lukaku.
