Everton signing this in-form PL speed demon would make them a lethal attacking unit – Silva must get him

Why Callum Wilson would be a fantastic signing for Everton

Back in May, Everton were heavily linked to Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson. Marco Silva was in need of solving his team’s goalscoring problems. However, a move to Everton never really materialised for the striker and he continued to ply his trade with Bournemouth.

Everton, of course, would then go on to sign the likes of Moise Kean, Jean Phillip-Gbamin, Fabian Delph and Alex Iwobi, whilst turning Andre Gomes’ loan move permanent over the summer.

Boosted by such high-profile signings, the Goodison Park faithful would have expected their team to push on and challenge for better things this term after a solid end to last season but Everton’s terrible start to the campaign is likely to have left them bitterly disappointed.

The Toffees are currently languishing in the relegation zone after losing four of their last five games in the Premier League. Everton boss Marco Silva has endured a tough start to the new Premier League season, coming under intense pressure after eight matches due to a number of lacklustre performances.

With just seven points from their opening eight league games, four defeats in a row, there is a lot of discontent amongst sections of the Everton fanbase.

With the Merseysiders leaking goals at an alarming rate, defensive reinforcements should be a top priority for Silva in January but the Portuguese tactician should also be aware of his team’s struggles in front of goal.

To put things into perspective, Everton must reignite their interest in Callum Wilson. The 27-year-old scored 15 goals for Bournemouth last season and has become a part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

He still has two years remaining on the contract he signed last summer and Cherries boss Eddie Howe will be determined not to lose his top scorer. But the Cherries could find it hard to resist a massive offer for a player who cost a paltry amount of money five years ago and has suffered cruciate injuries in both knees.

Blessed with pace and power, Wilson has made a name for himself as a clinical striker in the Premier League.

The England international has upped his game to a whole new level this season, having already found the back of the net five times. What makes him such an appealing target for Everton is his ability to create chances as well.

While the former Coventry City man is an excellent finisher, he is also capable of creating spaces for his teammates by making intelligent runs in and around the final third. He notably registered ten assists last season, which is quite impressive for a centre forward.

Truly, Wilson’s impressive work-rate and willingness to close down opponents makes him an ideal fit for Silva’s tactical setup.

Verdict

Hence, Everton would be wise to make a move for Wilson in January in a bid to ease their goalscoring concerns.
