Why Celtic must demand more than just £30m for their most talented star in recent years

Why £30m is too less for Tierney and Celtic should ask for more

Serie A champions Juventus have reportedly joined the race for Celtic hotshot Kieran Tierney. Juventus are the latest club to show interest in the 21-year-old defender, who Everton had reportedly been in talks for before withdrawing interest to focus on other targets due to Celtic’s £30m valuation.

It’s claimed the Hoops are refusing to budge on the £30million asking price for the Scotland international. Juventus scouted Tierney last season and are eyeing him as a potential replacement for Alex Sandro, who is a reported target for both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. Moreover, Jose Mourinho’s United also have a long-standing interest in Tierney but are yet to make a move.

A host of elite European clubs chasing Tierney’s signature suggests that the Celtic youngster is a sensation. A boyhood Celtic fan, Tierney has worked his way through the academy and has grown leaps and bounds in the last two years under the watchful eyes of Brendan Rodgers.

The Bhoys have been a dominant force in Scotland, especially in the last two seasons under Rodgers by winning a double-treble in the domestic arena. And Tierney has been at the heart of that rich success at Parkhead.

Tierney only signed a new six-year contract last year, tying him down to his boyhood club until 2023. The 21-year-old has already said a number of times that he has not thought about leaving Celtic and could spend his entire career at Parkhead.

So, there is no pressure whatsoever for Celtic to sell Tierney this summer or at least until the summer of 2022. In fact, the Scottish giants must raise their valuation of the player, because, let’s make it straight, £30million for arguably the best player in Scotland is absolutely peanuts for the likes of Juventus, PSG and Manchester United.

Tierney is a relentless player, one who doesn’t know to give less than 100% on the pitch for his boyhood club. He has a truckload of goals and assists to go along with his other outstanding capabilities.

The left-back has proven that he possesses the defensive nous and has already represented Scotland nine times, while he is also a serious threat going forward. Also, Rodgers has given him the captain’s armband over the course of his young successful career.

Tierney has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the world. If the likes of Juventus, United or PSG come up with an offer of £30m, Celtic must counter it with the double the amount or they least they can demand is £40m-£45m for their prized asset.

The Scotsman is just 21 and has shown the world that he can be a world beater in a few years time. It would be really ludicrous if Celtic end up selling their star this summer for just £30million.
