Why Celtic must do everything in their capacity to hold onto this £13.5m Ligue 1 target

Why Celtic should not sell Moussa Dembele at any cost this summer

Marseille are planning to make a sensational £13.5million bid for Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, reports the Scottish Sun.

Dembele, 22, has been plagued by injuries over the last 12 months after an incredible debut campaign at Parkhead. The Frenchman hit 32 goals in all competitions in his first season with Celtic before managing 16 in an injury-hit campaign as the Hoops clinched the double treble.

All is doom and gloom at Celtic right now, following their elimination from the Champions League earlier this week. Above all, it has been a tough transfer window for the Bhoys since Brendan Rodgers has not been backed by the board. And at a time when the Scottish champions have found it difficult to bring reinforcements this summer, Rodgers must keep hold of his players.

Moussa Dembele

Dembele is undoubtedly one of Celtic’s prized assets and is a player that needs to be kept at the club no matter what. The Frenchman has played a key role in Celtic’s back-to-back domestic trebles, scoring 50 goals in 91 appearances since joining from Fulham in 2016, including crucial goals in cup finals and the Champions League.

Dembele is a talented striker who can play either as a solitary player up front or in a partnership. He can run in behind the defenders or drop deeper in order to snatch the ball away. His link-up play has improved immeasurably and the Frenchman also has the knack of being in the right place at the right time.

The 22-year-old has the ability to score all kinds of goals and can finish with either foot. Despite his young age, Dembele can easily find time and space in the box even against the toughest of defenders. He is quick, agile, industrious, powerful and is also a big threat in the air, making him a top-class striker.

However, Dembele’s progress has been hampered at Parkhead with a handful of niggles and knocks with thigh and hamstring issues. He has no glaring weaknesses in his game but needs to keep improving to earn a ticket in France’s national team. With a bit more consistency and improved fitness levels, he is destined for a top future.

Celtic have dominated in Scotland but Rodgers’ side are yet to make a serious dent in Europe. They failed again this time around but if the Bhoys are to make waves in the Champions League, they will need Dembele since he can get them to step up a notch.

And given the current situation, the Scottish champions must avoid selling their star players – particularly Dembele. The youngster has been the real deal since arriving from Fulham. Furthermore, he has the capacity to provide value for money and net a larger fee down the line for Celtic.
