Chelsea must not think twice about retaining this 28-year-old midfield gem despite interest from Real Madrid

Why Chelsea must keep hold of N’Golo Kante amidst Real Madrid interest

According to a report from the Sun, Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea over the future of N’Golo Kante.

The France international, 28, was tipped to follow Eden Hazard to Real Madrid during the summer transfer window but, ultimately, chose to remain at Stamford Bridge for another 12 months.

While the verbal contract doesn’t guarantee that the player will end up at Santiago Bernabeu, Chelsea have agreed to notify the Spanish heavyweights should they ever receive any offers for the midfielder or decide to put him up for sale, the report adds.

N’Golo Kante admitted to being flattered by Real’s interest earlier this year before insisting that his future is at Stamford Bridge. The Frenchman is one of the most-coveted midfielders on the planet and has been on the radar of some of Europe’s big-hitters.

However, he has a contract with Chelsea until 2023 having penned a new deal last year and Frank Lampard must do everything to his powers to keep hold of the defensive midfielder.

Lampard’s life as a Chelsea manager hasn’t been ideal so far as his team have won just once in the first four games of the new season.

The Blues boss lost the club’s best player over the last few seasons in Eden Hazard and that coupled with the transfer ban meant he couldn’t bolster his squad ahead of the 2019/20. Plus, Lampard has had to deal with injuries to a couple of key players.

Kante has endured an injury-hit start to this campaign. The 28-year-old, who missed international duty through injury, has also been absent for Chelsea’s last two games but is set to be in contention for the clash against Wolves.

Anyone who witnessed the games Chelsea played without Kante and with him in the team against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup would have spotted a massive difference. With Kante, the Blues are a more organised and stable unit under Lampard.

The French midfielder boasts an impressive CV with two Premier League titles, an FA cup and a World Cup. He is undoubtedly a world-class midfielder and one of the best players in the Premier League.

In the modern-day, he is arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world. Hence, there is no surprise in Kante being linked with Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid.

Verdict

All in all, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard knows Kante is one of his squad’s key players and keeping hold of him should be an absolute priority.
