As per a report from The Sun, Chelsea are preparing a £35m bid to sign OGC Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri. It is important for Chelsea to sign reinforcements this summer.
After failing to defend the Premier League trophy, it is imperative that the club eyes a rebuild of sorts this summer. According to The Sun, Seri has been identified as a potential target.
The 26-year-old Ivory Coast international is a central midfielder by trade and considering his skills, he seems to be the ideal player for Chelsea right now.
Seri was under the spotlight after a breakthrough 2016/17 campaign for Nice which helped the Ligue 1 outfit emerge as title contenders. They eventually settled for a 3rd place finish but the midfield enforcer continues to play a crucial role in the club’s success.
Meanwhile, the Blues are in dire need of a new midfielder. Tiemoue Bakayoko has failed to live up to his billing and has been nothing short of a disappointment for the club.
Nemanja Matic’s departure has created a massive void for Chelsea and Bakayoko has failed miserably. N’Golo Kante continues to work wonders for the club but it is clear that they need another player to either partner up with him or play in his place.
Although Chelsea purchased Ross Barkley this January, he is likely to be deployed in an attack-oriented role to suit his natural game style.
Thus, due to a significant lack of quality options, it does seem like an industrious and hard-working player like Seri could go on to make a remarkable impact at Stamford Bridge. In the grand scheme of things, the Nice midfielder might end up being the ultimate replacement for Matic as well.
Seri’s arrival would essentially provide the perfect foil to support Kante’s destructive style while also offering scope for Barkley to play in a more advanced role.
