Why Chelsea Should Keep Faith In Antonio Conte And Stay Away From Diego Simeone

Chelsea are reportedly considering Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone as a replacement for current manager Antonio Conte. The Italian manager is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after winning the Premier League trophy with the Blues only last season. Upon doing so, he received several accolades from the fans for lifting the trophy in his debut season itself but since then, a lot of things have not worked out in his favour.

More than anything else, there have always been reports suggesting that the 48-year-old is unhappy with the transfer policy of the club. That has been a longstanding issue but the team’s poor performances have also irked the fans. For example, the Blues were beaten miserably by Arsenal in the FA Cup final, hardly days after being crowned as the champions of England. They also succumbed to an opening day defeat to Burnley and endured a rather topsy-turvy start to the season.

However, of late, Conte has managed to bring his team back to winning ways and it has worked out well for them. They are at 3rd place now and are exactly one point behind 2nd-placed Manchester United. Their hopes of launching a successful title defence are virtually over, thanks to Manchester City’s splendour but the battle for the top 3 spots is more open than ever and they do look poised to finish strongly. Despite all this, the Italian is expected to leave the club by the end of the season and that may not be the best thing for the club.

Antonio Conte Celebrating With Chelsea Players

Conte took charge at Chelsea and sort of revolutionised their whole set-up. He brought in his famed 3-4-3 formation at the club and since then, several other managers have also followed suit. He has also given quite a lot of chances to young stars and managed to complete the signing of Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid. He managed to bring about a sense of unity at the club that has been missing since Mourinho’s title-winning campaign with the Blues.

While Simeone is a good enough choice, it seems completely unnecessary for them to let Conte leave and bring in somebody else. Chelsea have a strong team now and are capable of doing a lot of good things but the chances of all that happening are likely to be stronger under Conte’s watchful eyes.

The fans love him and he has a knack for turning things around, which has been quite evident this season. Chelsea’s initial displays made it look like they would finish out of the top six and yet here they are, fighting for a top 3 spot. So the club must hold on to Conte at all costs beyond the end of the season.
