Why Kenedy Can Help Newcastle Finish Higher Up The Premier League Table

Newcastle United managed to sign Chelsea starlet Kenedy on loan in the recently concluded January window and that was undoubtedly a shrewd move by the management. At a time when the club were in the throes of a potential takeover with a lot of issues brewing between Mike Ashley and potential suitor Amanda Staveley, the fact that they even managed to bring in a promising young star like Kenedy is a huge thing. He is filled to the brim with potential and with the Magpies in a dismal place right now, Kenedy can work wonders.

Rafa Benitez’s impact was clear on the squad as they made an incredibly strong start to the Premier League season this time. In fact, they were even expected to be one of the contenders for a top-six finish but unfortunately for the club, as days wore on, so did their performances. From enjoying life in the top half of the table, the Magpies have now dropped down to 16th spot and are merely 2 points away from the drop zone.

This will obviously not bode well for the fans and pressure is mounting on Benitez. However, a dynamic young attacker like Kenedy can go a long way in helping them put up a stronger fight. It has been no secret that the Magpies have struggled for goals this season.

Kenedy in action against Crystal Palace

Dwight Gayle, Joselu and Ayoze Perez have been shockingly underwhelming while Aleksandar Mitrovic was never in with a chance of making it to the first-team. The player is currently out on loan with Fulham but until he returns, a lot will depend on Kenedy.

He is a left-sided player by trade and he is extremely versatile. That is probably why Benitez was so keen on signing him in the first place. He can be quite resourceful that way and although the 21-year-old has struggled for game time at Stamford Bridge, this will be a golden opportunity for him to truly set a strong foundation for his career.

From what we have seen so far, his raw power, speed and attacking abilities have brought in a new dimension to the Magpies’ front line, which was evident in the games against Burnley and Crystal Palace.

However, it is important to note that Kenedy alone is not enough to pull Newcastle out of this slump. The whole team needs to focus on getting the task done and if it does, the Chelsea starlet can truly benefit Newcastle and aid them in their quest for a higher-placed finish.
