Crystal Palace signing this Ligue 1 speed demon would be perfect for Roy Hodgson’s plans

Crystal Palace opinion: Should the Eagles sign Martin Terrier?

Adding Michy Batshuayi in the winter window has proven to be a sensational move by Crystal Palace, as it gives them a presence up front.

Christian Benteke’s struggles with both injuries and form this season have been well documented, which saw manager Roy Hodgson call Jordan Ayew back and cut his loan short.

But even the former Swansea City man couldn’t do much, managing just one goal in under 20 Premier League appearances. Batshuayi’s presence has proven to be just what the club needs and to make things even better, it has improved Wilfried Zaha’s form.

The former Manchester United star has found his goal-scoring touch in recent weeks, and even looks sharper playing on the wing. That has played a big role in Crystal Palace’s jump from the relegation battle, and the club now sits five points off 18th-placed Cardiff City.

However, their squad isn’t perfect. Palace need another goalkeeper and Hodgson should also look to add another winger. Other than Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend the club has no bonafide option.

Bakary Sako has struggled and is out of contract, while Jeffrey Schlupp’s presence hasn’t helped anyone. The former Leicester City man is very quick off the mark, but isn’t a threat in the final third, which has caused a few issues.

That being said, one man who Crystal Palace should target is Ligue 1 star Martin Terrier given the 22-year-old’s potential to grow. Terrier arrived in the winter of 2018 at Olympique Lyon from LOSC Lille after he conquered the team, making his way up from the LOSC Lille youth teams, at a staggering pace.

Terrier was subsequently loaned out to RC Strasbourg for the remainder of last season, producing 8 goals in all competitions. Mainly a left-winger, the Frenchman can play anywhere across the front line and also in a deeper role behind the centre-forward.

He has the pace and agility to make himself a menace for defenders, with Terrier constantly running in behind them. The Frenchman also uses his creativity to link up well with centre-forwards, creating a wide range of chances.

That’s what Crystal Palace have been lacking this season, depending far too much on a cross from the flank. But adding someone like Martin Terrier, gives another attacking dimension and it also injects more creativity into the side. While Max Meyer is very talented, there is only so much the 24-year-old can do.

Conclusion

If Crystal Palace ever want to succeed again and fight above their weight, then the club needs to add reinforcements over the summer. Martin Terrier’s presence will help them add a lot of spark to their front-line, and it will also help take the burden off Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend.

It’s a move that will only help the club and it’s at the perfect time for Terrier too.
