Crystal Palace signing this out of favour 27-year-old La Liga star would get them a straight upgrade on Benteke

Why Crystal Palace should go for Moanes Dabour in January

Moanes Dabour’s summer switch to Sevilla from Red Bull Salzburg has not gone according to the plans.

The Israeli international, 27, scored a staggering 37 goals and supplied a further 16 assists across all competitions for RB Salzburg last season. He played a crucial role in helping Salzburg win three successive Austrian Bundesliga titles.

Thus, it wasn’t a surprise to see Moanes Dabour make a switch to Sevilla during the summer window. However, a move hasn’t worked for him as the centre-forward has shockingly made just two cameo appearances in the Europa League.

As things stand, Dabour is not pleased with his situation in Seville and could leave in January. Should an opportunity arise, Crystal Palace, who were interested in the striker last year, must reignite their interest and look to sign him in January.

Just like the last couple of seasons, Crystal Palace are finding it difficult to score goals consistently. They may have started the new campaign well but it would be foolish from Roy Hodgson to ignore his team’s problems in front of goal.

Wilfried Zaha has been vital to the Eagles over the last few seasons and while he has struggled to find the net this season, the 26-year-old is still a key player for Hodgson. The Ivory Coast international’s pace, intelligent movement and link-up play with Andros Townsend and Jeffrey Sclupp make him such an indispensable figure for Crystal Palace.

But after a good start to the new season, Palace will be aiming for at least a top-eight finish and for that to happen, Hodgson must prioritise signing a prolific striker. Hence, the Eagles boss should go all out to sign Moanes Dabour.

A fast, agile and smart striker blessed with a keen eye for defence-splitting through balls and an innate ability to put away chances with both feet and head, Dabour could make an instant impact at Selhurst Park.

With his finishing abilities and the predatory instincts in front of goal, the Israeli international would also act as an experienced head at the top of the attack to complement the likes of Zaha and Townsend.

Verdict

With Palace definitely in need of more firepower, Hodgson should prioritise signing Dabour in the New Year. The addition of the Israeli international would represent a major piece of business for Hodgson as the Sevilla striker could be the ideal long-term solution to Palace’s goalscoring woes.
