Why Everton Must Avoid Taking This Huge Gamble In An Already Disappointing Season

David Moyes

David Moyes Again? Oh No! – Everton Cannot Afford To Take That Gamble

Everton were aiming big this season having spent £140m in the summer window, bringing in the likes of Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jordan Pickford and Wayne Rooney to improve the squad.

But, all the money spent by the Toffees did not reflect on the field as the Merseyside club slipped down to 18th place on the Premier League table after their 5-2 defeat at the hands of Arsenal at Goodison Park last week.

Ronald Koeman who was already walking on a thin line finally got the sack after managing just two wins in 9 games in the Premier League. With the Dutch manager out of the way, Everton will now be looking for a manager capable of steering them forward this season.

One of the names that has been doing the rounds is David Moyes. The Scotsman was in charge of the Toffees between 2002 t0 2013 before replacing Sir Alex Ferguson as the head coach of Manchester United in 2013.

His reign at Old Trafford was short lived, after getting sacked before the season ended in April 2014. The Scot let down Manchester United fans as well as Sir Alex Ferguson, who personally handpicked Moyes to takeover from him.

The 54-year-old manager recently broke his silence over his sacking and claimed that he deserved more time to make an impact.

Moyes recently opined: “I accept totally that when you are manager of Manchester United, you have to win. I didn’t win enough.

“But I don’t think there is a manager out there who would have been able to do something better or quicker in the time I was given after Sir Alex retired. It was all about small margins.”

Having been in charge of more than 800 games in his professional career, David Moyes hasn’t won any major silverware during his time. Apart from experience, the Scot never actually achieved much in the game.

The Toffees are looking to make progress and have sizable ambitions for the future and cannot afford to settle for someone like David Moyes. On the other hand, Moyes is also in contention to replace Gordon Strachan as the head coach of the Scotland National Team.

Everton have taken the first step towards progress when they broke their transfer record in the summer and under the right manager, the club has the potential to achieve their ambitions. But David Moyes is certainly not that man.
