Everton signing this 93-goal veteran would address their goalscoring woes – Agreed?

Why Everton must plot a January swoop for Bas Dost

Back in October 2017, ESPN had claimed that Everton were interested in signing then Sporting Lisbon striker Bas Dost.

Bas Dost, 30, joined Sporting Lisbon from Wolfsburg in 2016. He scored an eye-catching 93 goals in 127 appearances across all competitions in three seasons at Sporting before leaving the club in August for Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Netherlands international has enjoyed a good start to his life in Frankfurt. He has five goals in 11 games across all competitions, including three in eight Bundesliga games. With Dost back in the Bundesliga and doing well, should Everton go for him in January?

The Toffees have not lived up to the expectations this season, following their heavy investments over the summer. They are placed 17th and safety is the order of the day for the Merseyside outfit.

As per the Telegraph, Everton’s board are blaming themselves over their failure to sign a centre-back and a target-man in the summer transfer window.

Nevertheless, Everton must bring in reinforcements during the next window as they need to improve their form and climb up the table. A target-man is an absolute must, given Everton’s lack of goals. In that regard, Bas Dost would be an excellent fit at Goodison Park.

Standing at 6ft. 5in with a towering frame, Dost’s arrival would provide Silva with a much-needed focal point in his attack, thus allowing creative players like Richarlison, Alex Iwobi and Gylfi Sigurdsson to have a greater impact on the game.

He is strong in the air, a real handful for defenders in the box and his ability to hold up the ball with his back to the goal would add a different dimension to Everton’s attack.

Absolutely deadly when presented with a goalscoring opportunity, the Dutchman would be a good fit for Silva’s style of play. In the video below, one can get a glimpse of Dost’s predatory instincts in the box.

Verdict

Dost hasn’t played in the Premier League before but making a move to England at such a ripe stage in his career could help him adapt quickly to the new surroundings. Hence, Everton must go all out to land him in January.
