Everton’s pursuit of this 7-goal hitman would be quite a bargain for €15m – Agreed?

Why Everton signing Santos Borre would be a wise move

According to FOX Sports (h/t LancsLive), Everton have made a €15million bid for River Plate striker Rafael Santos Borre.

The Columbian forward’s impressive displays for the Argentinian outfit has caught the attention of Toffees (FOX Sports h/t LancsLive), who need to bolster their options upfront.

Santos Borre has had a remarkable season so far, scoring 7 times and assisting once in 11 league appearances.

He was also a key member of the River Plate side that reached the final of the Copa Libertadores recently. However, they lost 2-1 to Brazilian side Flamengo.

The 24-year-old proved his credentials with three goals in the South American competition.

Meanwhile, Marco Silva’s Everton are having a nightmarish season, as they continue to be dangerously close to the relegation zone. And such poor displays are simply unacceptable from a team that usually finishes in or around the top-ten.

Nothing seems to be working for the Toffees, whose major problem this season has been the dearth of good attackers in front of the goal.

Everton have struggled to score and their lack of consistency has proven to be the main reason behind their undoing this term.

Moreover, shooting boots seem to be missing for Everton attackers, as none of them has had any major luck with finding the back of the net.

Main strikers Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have done most of the scoring, with three to their names respectively.

The rest of the attackers have often seemed clueless and this has been evident from their poor displays in front of the goal.

Meanwhile, Everton have two more strikers in their ranks – Moise Kean, 19, and Turkish star Cenk Tosun.

The young Kean has found it extremely difficult to adjust to English conditions, failing to score even once. He has made over 10 appearances in the league so far but all in vain.

Cenk Tosun, meanwhile, has scored just once so far and has hardly done anything to warrant a place in the starting XI.

If the current trend continues, it could spell doom for the Portuguese boss and his lads at Everton, especially with the threat of relegation looming large.

Hence, it is no wonder that Everton are offering a bid to lure Santos Borre to Goodison Park.

The Columbian finisher has been a consistent performer for River Plate, having registered 27 goals and 8 assists in 83 appearances.

He also has experience of playing in European soil, having plied his trade with La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid after signing for them in 2015.

However, fewer opportunities at Atletico forced him to move to Villareal on loan the next year. He put up a decent display there, scoring 4 goals and assisting twice from 30 games.

Verdict

A proven goal-scorer, Santos Borre could help Everton return among the goals and diminish their chances of a relegation threat.

With all their attackers looking out-of-form, it would be wise if Everton succeed in landing this in-form striker sooner rather than later.
