7 goal, 3 assists – Man City beating European giants to land this 23-year-old Serie A playmaker would be quite a coup

Why Fabian Ruiz to Manchester City would be a terrific addition

According to a report from the Guardian, Manchester City are interested in Napoli star Fabian Ruiz, but face competitions from Real Madrid and Barcelona. Pep Guardiola’s club are planning to send scouts to watch him in action on Wednesday evening against RB Salzburg in the Champions League.

Fabian Ruiz, 23, was named as the best player of the Under-21 European Championship last summer as Spain won their fifth title and he has impressed in Serie A since joining Napoli from Real Betis in 2018.

He impressed in his debut Serie A season— scoring seven goals and providing three assists—that earned him his first senior Spain cap in June.

Napoli would not like to lose the creative midfielder anytime soon, but if the likes of Manchester City, Barcelona or Real Madrid are willing to break their bank, the Serie A side will not have any option but to sell him.

That being said, Manchester City must do everything to their powers to win the race for Fabian Ruiz’s signature.

David Silva has been nothing less than a legend for Manchester City, but he has already announced that the ongoing season will be his last one in the Premier League.

If City are looking to continue their domination, then they must already be keeping an eye on possible replacements for the Spanish midfield maestro who has loyally served them for almost a decade.

Guardiola does have a plethora of options in midfield but he must not reject the idea of replacing Silva next summer, unlike he did in the case of former skipper Vincent Kompany. And Fabian Ruiz would be a fantastic addition to City’s squad.

Ruiz will not only be a like-for-like replacement for Silva but will also provide more goal-threat from midfield. He boasts terrific ball-control and has enough pace under his belt to make some dangerous runs from midfield. The 23-year-old is an excellent dribbler with the ball and has an eye for a killer pass in the final third.

The Spaniard is also a significant threat from long range as his shots are often quite accurate.

A set-piece specialist, Ruiz is creative, can score goals, brilliant on and off the ball and has a great vision to shine in a team like City. He is 23 and will cost a fortune, but the midfielder has loads of potential that could be unlocked under a master tactician like Guardiola.

Verdict

The acquisition of a player of Ruiz’s ilk will undoubtedly bolster Guardiola’s midfield options significantly at the Etihad Stadium. The Spanish international has a whole career left ahead of him and a high-profile switch to City could help him bag a lot of trophies over the next few seasons.
